My Work for Fables Studios (2015-2018)

“The Story of a Boy in an All Girls School” (2020)

This was a show that had to travel in a small box truck with a second show’s set packed in there as well.

The goal was to make it as compact as possible, so the lockers on one side (constructed out of scrap 1/4” plywood), rotate, and on the other side you have the “classroom”, with the black board on top, and hand painted wood gran below, done by my students under my direction.

When you flip the blackboard down after you undo it’s hook and latch, it folds down to make a brick/cement wall to represent the back of the schoolyard.

I designed and built this over the span of about 25 hours throughout 2 weeks. Much of the painting was done by my students at the high school.

Akron Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory (2020)

(Sewer)

In this set of photos, you will see the sewer scene that I helped construct. This was finished in the span of two weeks, and added several minutes to the end of the show, which was our ultimate goal.

I helped design this, as well as took part in the construction and most all of the finishing.

(Castle Themed Bar)

This castle was constructed out of framing, vacu-form panels, and foam carved elements. This bar has 20 foot tall towers and was over 30 feet wide.

Godspell (2019)

We built this over the span of 1 month, working 25 hours a week at College of DuPage. On this set, I worked on the floor painting, constructed the buildings, gazebo roof, and balconies, as

well as installed all the doors and windows.

Scenes From an Execution (2020)

On this set, I constructed the renaissance era scaffolding that you see below, that rolled on casters, as well as worked on the frames of the rolling “canvases” below, and did all of the fabric

stretching. I also painted the floor from black to wood grain.

Cake 2019-2020

This set as well as all cakes were for Buffalo Theatre Ensemble’s production of “Cake”.

For this production I worked on the majority of the finishing carpentry, but a big part of my workload was fabricating a variety of foam cakes and sweets from start to finish. I designed, carved, coated and painted the sweets through a mixture of foam fabrication, permanent icing/frosting, and airbrushing.

Watson and Holmes (2019-20)

(Grammy nominated for scenic design)

This set was built for the premiere of “Watson and Holmes” for Buffalo Theatre Ensemble. This took 6 weeks with a crew of 6-10 working 5 hours a day. It was 19 feet tall and 34 feet wide. On this set I worked on the construction, detail, and I did all the math for the set. Above, you will see large wooden beams, and those had foam carved wood grain and ranged from 17-26 feet long. The stair treads, foam wooden beams, and floor were all finished with hand painted wood grain, by myself and two others.

Eyuridice 2020

(Selected for IHSA theater fest show feature)

I was the lighting designer on this show and assistant set designer/carpenter. This set utilized thin muslin walls for backlighting, and translucent UV paint to show off all of the letters that were written back and forth between Orpheus and Euyridice in the underworld.

Into the Woods (2021)

On this children’s theater production for Brightlights Theater and Dance Company, I was hired as the sole fabricator for the show over the summer of 2021. I was given a tight budget and a tight schedule, but I did all that I could to make sure the kids were able to have fun and feel immersed in the show. I used multiple skillsets from over the years, everything grom foam carving techniques to having to apply my theatrical rigging knowledge.

WeLovePopUps (2021-current day)

Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to work with, design and fabricate for one of Chicago’s largest pop up companies, known for shows such as “Jack’s Pumpkin Pop Up” and “Frosty’s”. Their events are very focused in influencers and nightlife in the North Side. When I’m brought in, I’m there to help translate their ideas into something tangible and aesthetically pleasing. I often am the carpenter, foam carver and scenic painter from start to finish on each project with assistance from other artists on staff.

Terror Roulette (2023)

I was brought onto this project as a carpenter and went on to become their saftey manager and production manager halfway through our three month long installation of this haunted house. I took care of making sure everything built was ADA compliant, assisted our electrician team. constructed portions of the show, and installed and performed maintenance on our automated scares and set pieces. The immersive show was partially fabricated and designed at the Iron Wood and Glitter shop in Tampa, Fl., and were then installed and expanded upon, here, in Barrington Il.

Paramount Theater (2024-current day)

At the theater’s shop in Aurora, I’m a prop artisan filling whatever shoes that need to be filled that week. I currently serve as a carpenter and properties fabricator for their 2024 season. As this is a newer and ongoing project, many of these pictures are of pieces still currently in progress.
